Ballerinas or Nothing!

Christian Louboutin once said: "I wanted to do shoes that are really just for seduction, for pleasure, for sex. That's it! A shoe you cannot run, cannot even walk. You want to run in a shoe, buy sneakers." Well, I would like to add - if you want to walk, buy ballet flats.

There are times when a sexy slingback or sky high stiletto completes the perfect outfit; these times also usually involve a taxi, a place to sit and a large cocktail to numb the pain. For all those other activities that take up the majority of our day - commuting to work, running errands, walking around town - there is a much more comfortable solution. Ballerinas!

A long time secret of the French woman, ballet flats work with almost any outfit. The right pair can keep you comfortable and on your feet all day long without having to compromise your style. Since their American comeback over the past ten years (and no, I don't think they are going anywhere), you can find them in any color, fabrication, style and price point. Some have straps, some bend and some glitter. You can wear classic Chanel or Dr. Scholl's Fast Flats (...not so chic), whatever suits your tastes.

Then...
...and now

My personal can't-live-without-you ballerinas are made by London Sole. Spotted on pretty much every celebrity yet still largely unknown, London Sole flats come in the softest leather and about a million different colors, fits and styles. They rarely rub me uncomfortably and I can walk in them for yours. And more importantly, they are also not too expensive. I recommend always owning a pair of basic black leather Lowcuts (which you will replace after you wear them to death - because you will), and then sprinkling in some fun with colorful variations. Check them out at londonsole.com.

So now that the secret is out, just promise me this - never EVER again will you wear your gym shoes to the office or sketchers with a skirt. It simply isn't chic. My work here is done.

TIP: Ballet flats are a great way to blend in as a local when traveling abroad.
