All of this has to fit in my small suitcase |
I am a big believer in packing light so for my week-long trip to Vancouver I decided to take my carry-on-size, so-old-and-beat-up-it’s-embarrassing-but-still-love-it trolley suitcase and a large Longchamp tote.
Great idea for warm-weather jet setting, bad for rainy, cold city slicking. So many sweaters and boots, so little space.
Ok so I do admit that I am actually pretty good at packing. I learned at an early age that you don’t need to pack your entire wardrobe to look like your well-dressed, stylish self when traveling abroad. To quote my mom, pack less, bring more money. You are probably going to Milan, not Mongolia - if you are missing something important, just buy it there.
And I threw in a pair of Uggs in the end... |
Nevertheless, a friend of mine sent me this great video tutorial on how to pack a whole bunch of stuff into a small suitcase. I have now tried it twice and it hasn’t failed me yet. Just make sure to replace Gulliver’s pile of Patagonia with your Zara, J. Crew and Barneys mix and match outfits.

Everything fits!...even if I did have to expand it |
Remember: packing light is no excuse to run around another city in Birkenstocks and pajama pants. Ditto on white sneakers, North Face puffers and Jansport backpacks.
