I've never been much of a London Fashion Week kind of girl but two shows really stood out for me this past past week. One a seasoned industry veteran and multi-million dollar label, the other one of the most closely watched new designers in the fashion world today.
Burberry Prorsum was probably my favorite collection for Fall/Winter 2012 thus far. Christopher Bailey gave us beautifully crafted coats, belted with feminine bows; rich pencil skirts adorned with vertical ruffles; adorable yet simple animal printed tees; and stunning skirts and dresses covered in layers of feathers. Trends included puffed sleeve blouses a la leg of mutton, long silhouettes and belted waists. Finally a show this season without an abundance of lace and sheer - refreshing indeed. Not only do I want every single piece (ahem..Moda Operandi) but I also took a lot of inspiration from the styling.
The show that I was most looking forward to in London was that of Mary Katrantzou. It is only her fourth year showing but you wouldn't be able to tell from looking at her collection. She is as polished and focused as the best of them. Developing a brand around her unique use of prints and her structured, architectural designs, Mary has proven herself to be LFW's new it girl. This season she re-invented once again her signature look through new shapes, colors and print inspiration. Part Elizabethan dress, part space age sportswear, Mary's collection proved that you can still offer up something new while staying true to your vision. Can't wait to see some of these pieces up close and personal.
